Oboe Reed-Making Lessons

At this time, I only offer in-person oboe reed-making lessons. Every level of reed-maker is welcome, whether they have never held a reed knife or have made many oboe reeds! Reed-making is an investment both financially and in terms of time spent, but know that it is worth it!

Process:

I teach reed-making in several stages:
1. Shaping and Tying Reeds
2. Scraping Reeds
3. Finishing Reeds

Expectations:

Students are expected to practice reed-making in addition to their time spent practicing the oboe. Students will be given specific goals to meet before the following lesson depending on what part of the reed-making process we are covering.

Pricing:

$30 per 1-hour lesson

There are many materials needed for reed-making, but to begin, students will need at least these:
- Gouged Cane
- Oboe Staples
- FF Nylon Thread
- Mandrel
- Metal Ruler
- Cutting Block
- Razor Blades
- Plaque
- Knife
